Real Bride Question: Can the Groomsmen wear tuxes they already own?

Q:
”The Groom and his friends all have custom tuxes that are slightly different. In your opinion, do you think we can go with rentals that are all the same, or can they wear their own tuxes but with matching accents (bowties, cufflinks, studs)?”

A:

I’m the first in line to appreciate the fact that all of the groomsmen already own custom tuxes! If it’s not an option for me to see a photo of all the tuxes to ensure that they are in fact going to look great all together, my first inkling would be to advise that the gents rent matching suits / tuxes. There are so many different shades, cuts and styles, especially when it comes to custom, that it can end up looking mismatched in the wrong way-thereby ruining your wedding party photos.

If getting fresh and completely matching custom menswear isn’t in the cards for all the important men, what I often suggest is having the Groom get a custom suit or tux, and then the Groomsmen all wear a complementing rented ensemble.

I definitely suggest going the extra mile, and elevate the men’s style with nice accessories: buy nice ties, cufflinks and pocket squares to add a bit of pizazz to their rented attire.
